Cortés Arango's intimate score serves as the perfect complement for the Scorsese-produced film
LOS ANGELES - DelhiScan -- LOS ANGELES, CA – Acclaimed composer Juan Cortés Arango is set to release his highly anticipated original score for Hanna Ladoul and Marco La Via's Au Fil Des Saisons (titled Funny Birds in English-speaking territories) on August 23, 2024. The album will be available across all major streaming and download platforms, and fans can pre-save the album via Linkfire, which will automatically update on the release day to aggregate all album links.
Funny Birds, executive produced by legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese, features a remarkable cast including Catherine DeNeuve, Andrea Riseborough, and Morgan Saylor. Cortés Arango's music beautifully captures the essence of their performances.
"Andrea Riseborough's fragility in the movie was very rewarding to capture through music because it felt very human," Cortés Arango shares. "The film kept teaching me to be simple. Another beautiful aspect is Charlie, played by Morgan Saylor. In an attempt to capture the youthfulness of her character, I created two songs with my dear friends, Elline and Adam Brock, whom I am very thankful for their talent and friendship."
This film marks the second collaboration between Cortés Arango and the directing duo of La Via and Ladoul, having previously worked together on Anywhere With You, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018. With Funny Birds, the composer aimed to capture the intimate and personal nature of their creative partnership within the music itself.

"Funny Birds is a very dear experiment," says Cortés Arango. "I treated it as if I had a band with my musicians and friends. I'm very close with the directors, Marco and Hannah, and wanted to retain that intimacy of this collaboration within the music. It was also challenging because that meant very simple and contained musical choices—sometimes, simple choices are more challenging than layering music with sophisticated lines just because you've chosen to be more vulnerable."
This original score is not just a collection of compositions, but a heartfelt journey through the emotional landscapes of the film's characters and stories. Juan Cortés Arango's ability to evoke deep feelings through simplicity makes this album a must-listen for both film music enthusiasts and general audiences alike.
